Our story
In 1925, twenty-one followers of Jesus gathered on the site of what would become our church building at Alder Road. Their vision: "To build a chapel, usual or convenient for carrying on the work of a Christian Church."
1925 feels a world away now, but we are still committed to telling the story of what Jesus has done for us in our local community, across Poole and Bournemouth, and to the ends of the earth.

Gateway church is part of the Advance movement of churches advancemovement.org which exists to plant and strengthen churches around the world. We also work closely with other churches in BCP.
We are very optimistic about the future of the church! We believe Jesus is building his church. There are times when the church suffers apparent setbacks, but because God's plan is to display his multi-coloured wisdom and glory through the church (Ephesians 3:10,21) we are confident that the church has a brilliant future. This means we are full of faith about what Jesus is doing at Gateway, and together we want to step into all that he has planned for us.

our building project
At Gateway we are blessed to have two buildings, on Ashley Road and Alder Road, which are used in multiple ways to help us in our mission. During 2022 we were able to do extensive building work at our Alder Road site. You can watch our Timelapse video to see how the project progressed:​
​The total project cost was £1.85million, which we are covering by giving from the church and a loan of £1.2million loan from the Baptist Union. The building contractor, Spetisbury, took possession of the site in January 2022 and the project was completed by the end of 2022.
Doing this was a real stretch for us, one which took faith, but which we felt was realistic. As the people of God, we are called to exercise faith in his ability to supply, strengthen and meet the needs of his people as we partner with him in the ongoing establishment and growth of his kingdom purposes in the world. Surely nothing is impossible for our God!
